Introduction
Hong Kong Unison is a non-governmental organization founded in March 2001 and recognized as a public charitable institution (IR File No. 91/7763) in 2005. We receive no government funding. In the past years, our services have expanded from handling individual cases to advocating policy reforms for ethnic minority residents.
Aim
We believe that people are born equal. On the basis of humanitarianism, we will endeavor to assist ethnic minorities to participate in Hong Kong society, assume social responsibilities, and attain equal access to education, employment, legal, housing, social and medical services, and all other rights given to Hong Kong citizens.
Services
Hong Kong Unison focuses its work on serving ethnic minority Hong Kong residents and their families.
Apart from permanent residents, ethnic minorities in Hong Kong also include foreign domestic workers, refugees/ asymlum seekers/ torture claimants and expatriate workers.
Service Scope:
1. Advocacy : Legislation against Racial Discrimination, Race Equality Plan, Equal Opportunities and Quality Education for Ethnic Minority Children and Youth, Chinese as Second Language Policy, Supportive Measures to Ethnic Minority students, Equal Access to Public Services;
2. Public Education: Ethnic Minorities' culture exhibitions and exchange, Talks and Sharing to different professional sectors;
3. Direct Services : Family and Individual counseling, Youth Empowerment and Organizing - School Based Programs : Career Guidance and School Talks, Teachers' Training, School Place & Job Hunting Service.
