Families of SMA Charitable Trust

Introduction

Families of SMA Charitable Trust was established to provide financial assistance, donation of medical and para-medical equipment to relieve hardship and patients suffering from an extremely debilitating genetical disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is a form of neuromuscular disease. Many victims are young children who are rendered severely disabled and require specialized medical care and advanced medical equipment.

We run self-help programmes and outings for SMA patients and their family members to promote common support and understanding. We also support top notch international medical research in finding treatment and an early cure for this terrible disease.

To increase and promote public awareness and understanding of SMA diseases in Hong Kong; To provide financial support and assistance to needy SMA victims and their families; To support and fund on-going medical research; To keep a central registry of SMA patients for research and communication.

Services

Service Brief:
- Providing Patient service (spinal muscular atrophy patients and families)
Service Scope:
1.Medical Equipment and Wheelchair Donation: provide wheelchairs, life-sustaining and life-saving equipment to keep patients alive
2.Home Based Rehabilitation and Therapy: provide Physio and Occupational therapies to help with various health and home-adaptation problems
3.Counseling and Advice: include assisting, hand-holding and sharing love and concern with patients and parents
4.High Nutrition Milk Supplements: provide high-nutritional milk supplements to those with swallowing and eating difficulties
5.Augmentative Assistive Technical Support: consult computer experts and technicians to help SMA children
6.Emergency Home Help
